Abstract:
In the years 1800-1830 Polish language gained status of a separata subject at secondary schools, but due to political situation its place at school varied in each annexed territory of partitioned Poland. Famaus Polish secondary school in town of Krzemieniec worked to its advantage up to 1830. School teen-agers were educated in a patriotic and democratic spirit. ; Notable teachers were employed. One of them was a R. C. priest Alojzy Osiński (1800-1842)who worked there in the years 1806-1824. He was a distinguished philologist, lexicographer, bibliographer, translator, author of many works of church history, an erudite and a man of great diligence, famous among contemporaries for his authority. (His greatest works remained in manuscript). He lectured on Polish and Latin literature. His lectures were arranged into a typical scheme of that epoch according to literary genre and categories and he looked into Polish literature against a background of foreign literatura - chiefly of the ancient times like the Roman and Greek. The novelty in his lectures was frequent reference to literary texts. ; He was recognized by his students as an expert master of history and ancient culture as well as a learned man of national literatura. A lover of mother tongue who was trying to implant solicitude for this language in students. Friendly and understanding preceptor who was awakening youth to patriotism and indicating ethical principles. He was liked by the youth who were fascinated by his personality, therefore they propagated his merits all over the country.
